ky_mom32's Full Review: Mary-Kate and Ashley: Get A Clue for Game Boy Colo...
I purchased this game for my 8 year old daughter. She has been a fan of the Olsen twins for as long as I can remember and I thought she would really enjoy this game. She did enjoy it, but only for a little while. After playing the game over and over she began to lose interest. The commands were simple enough for her, and she loved the music and graphics, but the game itself did not hold her attention repeatedly.
The game is classified by Acclaim as a puzzle game, and the object of the game is to solve five cases that take you from a museum to a summer camp. The museum level has the best graphics with some wonderful Mona Lisa pictures. After you solve each case you receive a puzzle piece. Some of the puzzles are harder to solve than others. If a level is particularly hard you can get clues to help you solve the case. The clues are hard to obtain sometimes and I think that is one of the things that made my daughter lose interest. I love computer games and other video type games. If I come to something I can't solve or a level I can't master then it becomes almost like me against the game(can anyone relate?) and I will play over and over until I solve it. I have learned through this game that it is not he same for my 8 year old daughter. If she can't get past it she eventually loses interest. One thing that she did find was that if she had trouble with one of the levels she could try it next time using the strength of a different character and maybe have more luck. Each character has different strengths. One thing that makes the game hard is that you have to get all three characters: Mary-Kate, Ashley and Clue through the levels. A friend of my daughter told her that there was a password for infinite lives and I offered to contact help via telephone for my daughter, but she just isn't interested. She has always loved everything the Olsen Twins did, and I think she just expected too much.
I also have a 5 year old son and while the game was too technical for him, he did not even enjoy trying to play which is unusual for him. He can usually be entertained by the sounds and movements, but not with this one. Absolutely refused to take much interest in this "girls's game."
Bottom line for us is that these two are great for TV, book, and video, but leave much to be desired in the game playing history books.
I will not purchase any other Olsen twin game cartridges for Game Boy or otherwise.
