The Pokemon Saga continues

Feb 07 '00

The Pokemon phenomenon has taken over my nine year old sons brain. He has always been an intelligent child, and he has always minded his parents when told to do something. Since Pokemon have come to live at our house things have changed drastically. He used to enjoy family time or playing with friends, now I have to hunt him down in the afternoons, I nine out of ten times find him in a corner of his room with his Pokemon cards in hand or his Game Boy with guess what game inside? If he is playing with his friends they are usually trading cards instead of playing basketball. I just don't like it anymore.
I know alot of people will disagree with my perspective and say that its just his age, but I will hold steady in my opinion that Pokemon has alot to do with the behavior changes..Several friends confirm the same beliefs in their children.
I have tried to understand the meaning behind this Pokemon craze. I have spent countless hours watching my son trade and have accompanied him to the store to buy these cards. I have absolutely no clue.
I have heard the buzz about there being an evil pretense behind them but have yet to see an article from a religious affiliation that would help me decide that on my own. I personally just don't like them.
The only upside to this issue is the fact that my son is beginning to see the light (with his parents urging) and is checking around at some card shops that buy Pokemon cards, so maybe he'll make a few dollars and buy something we all like a lot better..
