Looking around at today's consoles I can't help but look back at what was once the system to own. Of course, I'm talking about the NES. Then Sega came in and the console wars were started. Nintendo reigned supreme that is until Sony came along and knocked the big N off its lofty perch. Sega is now back were it once was, Nintendo is working on its next generation console, and Sony is getting prepared to release the PS2. It will hit American soil on October 26, but for those of you must be the first people to have it on your block (you know who you are) you can import it and pay a much heftier price than those of waiting will pay.
I have no doubt in my mind that this will be a outstanding system. Sony has been able to do something that no other console has done to me, a qualified Nintedork, and that is get me interested in a system that I will buy that is not manufactured by Nintendo. I know one day I will have to lay the N64 to rest and hope that the PS2 will be able to satisfy
my gaming needs. I'm sure that it will.
The main reason I'm going to purchase a PS2 is because it will allow me to play Playstation games on it, as well as all the accessories. No other system has been able to do this(well unless you count the TruboDuo or even the Sega 32X, but I won't get into that.). All those great RPG's that I was unable to play before will now be accessible to me. Another reason is because it will have the ability to play DVD's. Now I was planning on buying a DVD player anyway, but why bother now that the PS2 will be able to. I won't even go into what the PS2 can do as there are other sites on the web that already state that.
Sony may have a sleek new system on its way but of course there are problems. Price is the biggest problem ( well, at least in my eyes it is) at $299 people might not want to shell out that much money for a system, thank God I've been saving all my pennies. Sony did the same thing six years ago so it shouldn't came as a surprise to anybody. If the price was lower than a lot more people would be interested in it. Hopefully price will be the biggest problem but with all the features that the PS2 has there are bound to more problems here and there.
I could go on longer about this but without playing the system first I couldn't state accurate facts and that would be unfair of me to do so. I just hope Sony doesn't get too cocky and end up falling flat on their faces and be forced to do what Sega is doing with their Dreamcast,(They are finally gaining back the trust they once had.). Or that the PS2 meets the same fate that the 3DO, Jaguar, and Sega Saturn all faced, only time will tell.
