This system was highly successful at the time, and I loved it as a kid. I thought the graphics were great and games awsome. If you play it today though, you realize that only a few games looked really good, and there was alot of bad games that came across.
Donkey Kong looked great! Mario was actually 3 different colors! Donkey Kong J.R. was just as good if not better!
LadyBug and MouseTrap rank right up there as well. And don't forget the Smurfs.
The controllers were very radical, and I don't think they have been repeated, which is a good thing. Those buttons will forever kill your thumbs, and the knob control got weak quick.
They keypad was a nice option, but the telephone cord was annoying.
I think the highlights of the system were the superaction controllers. These were special controllers which had an analog roller that you spun to run faster. Like a trackball, just in a dial form. This was made cheaply and broke often. SuperAction baseball and Rocky Boxing were alot of fun. I recently had the emulator and practically every game made for it. It was easy to see why this system ran out of steam.
My biggest complaint is nothing for this system was durable. It was all made so cheap! If you opened the door to the expansion port, you had to act like Mcgyver to close it! Mine is still stuck up.
And what is with this powersupply? It is literally like a brick!
What is this thing powering, a mini-nuclear reactor?
