I bought this game because it was cheap, not really knowing what to expect. I knew it was an older game for the playstation and that a lot of people seemed to enjoy it. That was about all I knew.
After playing it once, I began to realize what a great game it really was.
It boils down to this:
Gran Turismo has a few different racing modes, which include simulation mode and arcade mode.
Simulation mode is where you get a little money to buy a cheap car, then race and win money, all the while trying to buy the best car you can to blow away the competition. This is a fun mode because of the fact that the cars you buy are really out there... maybe you even own one in real life. Also, you have to try for "licenses" that let you race for more money. All of these aspects really add to the replay value of the game.
Arcade mode is where you go to just race and have fun. There's no money involved, and your selection of cars is limited compared to the simulation mode. However, in arcade mode, you can race head-to-head with another player. I've spent a lot of time racing my friends with the same car to see who was the better driver.
The graphics in this game are incredible, even by today's playstation standards. The replay mode looks especially good, with realistic lighting effects and the like. Real car companies like Mazda, Chevrolet and Dodge all make appearances.
All in all, this game is a racing classic, a must have for a playstation owner.
