Violence in Games is a Problem, but the Solution Lies at Home!
Feb 05 '00
I have varying opinions on violence in games or the media in general. On one hand, you have the issue of desensitization. Our children see murder and violence on television, hear it in the music they listen to, and take part in it in the games they play. It seems obvious to me and many others that this over exposure has led to tragedies like in West Paducah, Pearl, Littleton, Jonesboro, Moses Lake and Springfield.
On the other hand, I am an opponent of censorship. It is not the responsibility of programmers, Hollywood and musicians to teach our children right from wrong. Parents who leave that responsibility to others or turn a blink eye are part of the problem. Get involved, listen to you children's music, play the video game with them. Parental guidance is the only realistic solution.
