Pros: Great storyline, great soundtrack, great graphics, excellent game play, a very long game, very involving, and very unpredictable
Cons: May take some time to understand the magic system, not much choice for what happens to you in the story

I personally have been a fan of sci-fi RPGS, or least ones that deal with high technology, and not just magic and castles and such.
While that sort of game is all well and good, the sci-fi ones always have much more freedom, and FF8 excersizes that freedom to the fullest potential. It is very imaginative and involved, and does not leave any concept of the story hanging.
The progression of the story is very natural, and does not one bit feel rushed or out of place. Unless they meant for it, nothing really seemed to just come out of nowhere and have no real correlation with anything.
I played this after playing FF7, and the comparison is slightly different. For one thing, the main game graphics got a major boost, which in my opinion was a great idea. The characters actually have decent texture maps on them, and are proportionate to a good degree. The in game movies remained to at least the same caliber as the last installment, if not more advanced.
The game is 4 CDs, and it takes quite a while to get through the entire thing, which is another major plus, the more bang for your buck you could say.
And one of the most important aspects of the game in the music, second to story only. The music was composed by the same person who did the soundtrack to FF7, and again it at least matches if not surpasses the quality of the last installment.
One thing that was particularly different from the other FF's, is the magic system uses the Draw/Junction method. This takes a little while to understand, but once you get it, it is easy to deal with, and makes the game have a bit more variety from the others.
Overall, if you are at least remotely interested in RPGS whatsoever, get this game, and you will not regret it.
