| Cindsan's Full Review: Scrabble for Windows |
I was a bit skeptical about Scrabble on the computer. I love the board game and was sure the software version would be disappointing. When I found a promotional coupon for it on the box of my favorite cereal(Cheerios), I thought, "what the heck, I'll give it a try". That is how my obsession began.
I can't stop playing this game! Our Scrabble board game mostly sits around gathering dust because I seldom have anyone to play with. With the Scrabble software I can always count on Maven (that is the computer opponent's name) to be ready for a game whenever I am. If we don't have time to finish our game, perhaps because the family wants to eat supper, it's no problem, our game is saved and we don't have to pack up the game board.
I think the game I have isn't the most recent version, but I don't mind. You can choose a computer opponent from novice to advanced or custom. There is some elevator type music you can choose and a few board and background styles. Nothing fancy, but you don't need more. There are lots of game options and you can play against the computer or friends and family or even online. There are even mini-games you can choose, I haven't tried them yet, because the regular play has me hooked. There is a built in dictionary and referee. Be warned, the referee is ruthless and doesn't give second chances! This option can be turned off, which I do for my 7 year old.
I have it set on Intermediate and Maven trounces me about half the time. I think I'll go up to the next level now and see what I can do. I think I'll go do it now... This time I'll just play one game, really...
