Quick solutions to a Psychological problem...

Apr 05 '00 (Updated Nov 04 '00)

It amazes me how many individuals blame video games for a child or adults anger. Some critics often times say video games can "Desensitize" or "Encourage" Violence. Now is it the video game which is encouraging the killings, or is it a deeper problem? Is society actually in danger because of these games?

Now don't take this wrong, video games are indeed violent, but are they the cause for acts of violence? My belief is that Video games, violent or not, can help increase things such as eye hand coordination and creativity. I personally love gaming because it is a form of entertainment. You see, I don't go and shoot people because I have the "knowledge" or "Common sense" that killing is not a solution for my problems. Because of this, I know that taking out my anger on society isn't the answer. The answer is deeper inside of the individual.

Video games are not to blame when acts of violence and hatred are committed. The question shouldn't be "What activities (such as video games) encourage violence," the question should be, "Why do people take their frustrations, hatred, anger and problems out on others?" If a person wants to use the excuse that killings for example in schools are in part due to video games, then I would like to bring to attention the many recent shootings by postal workers as well as other work addicts (Stock traders etc.) who have killed fellow workers as well as their own families. Should we ban work because it causes stress? Should we?

To conclude I would like to say that activities such as violent video games are not the underlying cause of violence, the cause of violence is either a bad family relationships or a life led without God where there isn't any hope. Also, if parents and family did their duty and talked with their children, there wouldn't be so much built up, suppressed anger.
