| reginahitch's Full Review: Gran Turismo 1 for PlayStation 1 |
I bought this game because a cousin did, and I wanted to race against her. When I got the game, I had to get it home before I realized I had to have a memory card before I could save a profile to race with.
Gran Turismo is one of the best racecar driving simulation games around. You start of by receiving a credit of 10,000 to purchase a car. You also have to earn a Class B license, which is easy. Once you have your car and license, you can begin racing other drivers. You need to earn two more licenses before you have access to all the races the game has.
Races you may enter with the Class A license are more difficult, but do not offer a lot more challenges than the Class B races. Class IA races are a little more difficult, only because you are traveling at much higher speed. The tracks for all the races are the same.
I chose Gran Turismo over other racing games because 1. it was cheapest and 2. it had great graphics. I also think it is the most realistic driving simulation game around. Excellent game for the money! Even my son can handle it, and he's only four!
We played this game for hours the first day, and we can still sit down and win four or five races and buy a new car to race with.
They made getting your license just hard enough to inspire you to work harder. Once you get the IA, there's no limit to the money you can win, but getting that is difficult at first.
One of the biggest setbacks I saw was the lack of world class race cars available for purchase. I watched French car races as a child, so I know one of the hottest cars is the Lambourghini, but I didn't see that in this game. There are also no Porsche cars. I was disappointed at that. It does have Corvettes, which stall going up even slight hills, and Aston Martin and the Dodge Viper, which is a great car. All in all, though, even without the Porsche or Lambourghini, it is a fun game.
