Hey, fellow Epinioners, yes, it's been quite a long time between drinks for me, but I was somewhat busy and I really didn't have any product that I was interested in enough to review - and then one day it struck me, why not go back to the classics?? Well, by 'classics' I don't mean PacMan, although it is quite entertaining, it's not exactly worthy of a full blown review at this point :)
Anyway, I thought I'd review the ultimate killer app for the original PlayStation. With the recent launch of PlayStation2 creating all the doo-da in the gaming industry, why not be different, and review this old gem from our good pals at Sony? :)
The most outstanding features of GT (Gran Turismo) are that everything about it is (or was, rather) the best at the time, and still one of the best, EVER. The list of cars, from Honda NSX, to TVRs, Mitsubishi EVOs, Toyota Supras, are mindboggling and made me drool for quite some time.
Also, the cars can be modified with the money earnt from races - each types of races, will earn you different amounts of money, and all the races can be revisited, so it doesn't matter if you do badly in some, you can always do them again, to buy that NSX... :)
The customisability of the cars is mind boggling, and it would make Ross Brawn proud (for those of us who don't know who he is, he's the technical director of the 2000 World Title winning Ferrari F1 Team). Everything from suspension to engine mods can be bought, and with racing spec parts the ride height, suspension hardness, tyre compounds, gear ratios among others can be changed.
Oh, and last not but the least, the physics engine... well, it's nothing short of VERY COOL... it responds to your modifications/set-up changes, each car behaves very differently, although I couldn't tell if they were true to the real life physics model of each cars, but they damn well are fun!!! The oversteer-happy nature of the Supra, the Evo's throttle-happy powerslides, and the horrible understeers of the front wheel drives are quite well portrayed..
Oh, another good news about this game is that it works perfectly on bleem, or at least it is claimed so on their website. Why don't u go and pick up a copy, surely a copy of it can be found cheaply at your local stores!?
