Reading the titles of most of the other reviews of this game, you would hardly know that this was a fighting game, much less one related to the superb game, Dead or Alive 2. While this is somewhat deserved, there are other reasons you may not have played this game. When this game came out, Tekken 3 was less than a month away. And at that time Tekken was a bigger phenomenon than Gran Turismo. Dead or Alive was released and the public image was that of a mediocre fighter with some "female bounce." As the hardcore gamer I am, I decided to try it out. What I found beneath the "female bounce" was a fighting game with loads of potential. The game engine mixed a little of Street Fighter with a little of Tekken, and a little of Virtua Fighter. Unfortunately the developers spent most of their time admiring the "female bounce" and failed to realize the full potential of the engine. Sure the graphics and control were great, but I couldn't help trying to figure out what this game could have been if the fighting engine were utilized to full potential. I found out in DOA 2, and only could wish the fighting engine in DOA was. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this game with all of the other psx fighters that are better(Tekken series, Soul Blade, Darkstalkers 3, Rival Schools, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Street Fighter EX series), these are all better. But, feel free to pick up DOA 2 if you have a DC, or are going to pick up PS2
