Just what we needed another first person shooter, right?
Seems like all the best games are though - Deus Ex, Half Life, etc...
No One Lives Forever fits right along side my favorite games now.
You know I have always wanted to be a female secret agent!! lol
N.O.L.F.(no one lives forever) is a wonderful mix of action, visual treats(not just your character), and humor. Set in the mid 70's, you are a stunning British secret agent who does not get ANY respect.
As with most first person shooters you walk/run/swim around shooting people and completed set tasks. The controls are perfect, not too much to master.
Where N.O.L.F. excels is the imagination of the game developers.
Your weapons(besides the usual guns) are things like exploding lipstick, and a hair barret(?) to pick locks. You ammo is either taken from the recently deceased or found in women's overnight bags.
The game is visually beautiful. Nice colors, bright for a change! Your locales range from Morroco to a mile high in the sky(skydiving from a crashing jet-liner).
The chatter from individuals you find around you is more than amuzing. As well as the yelps your bullets cause in the enemy. I have honestly found myself laughing at the conversations I am presented with in the game.
Besides the things that make this stand out from the other first person shooters we have grown to love, N.O.L.F. keeps you on your toes. Very similar to Deus Ex. Decisions you make during the game affect how the game reacts to you.
The gun control is very good, the agility of your character is perfect, and the surroundings in the game are A+!
The requirements to run the game(at its fullest) are a little high - 750 MHz PIII 64MB 3d card 128MB RAM. The nice thing is you can reset the video output to 3 levels depending on your machine.
One thing I noticed(bad) is the game does not play well on a Voodoo 2(newest drivers) without reseting some of the video displays. This entails turning off background texture, even though it does the opposite and turns them on.....hmmmm If you don't do this you will see milky white walls etc...
My fix was to set the game to the lowest settings(1 out of 3). Looks absolutely perfect. Not like you think the lowest setting would look....
I have not seen any patches yet, I am playing version 1.0 straight out of the box.
If you like first person shooters, and need a change from the old - this is a GREAT game to pick up. I can't stress the humor in this game enough!
Wonderful job guys/gals, I hope to see more games that break from the norm like N.O.L.F. in the near future!!!!!
