So I can play this game forever, forever in my room!
Seriously, folks, this game is the best racing game ever. Not that I’m a fan of the genre. I mean, come on, about ten of them come out every week, and nine of them suck, while the other one is below average. What kind of genre is this?! Certainly a RPG player wouldn’t dream of buying one? These were my thoughts as I read through the IGN article back in December. I decided to ignore it. Well whoop freakin’ do I thought, I got my Final Fantasy to play. Who cares about a stupid racing game?
But then it kinda got hard to avoid. Every freakin’ article was a Gran Turismo 2 article, so I checked in. Looking at screenshots, it looked awesome. Still, I didn’t get it.
Around March, I went to my friend’s house and played it. I loved it. I dished out the $40.00 for the game. Still, I didn’t open it until May because I had misplaced it and I had just found it. It was still in the wrapper. Surprisingly, I didn’t miss it (only the forty bucks), but I still opened it and played it. I put in the Simulation mode and bought a used ‘93 Honda Civic Sedan and entered the Sunday Cup.
BOOOMMM!!! Things exploded in my face. The track was heavily detailed. The cars even more. Was that a Mustang I saw buzzing by? The light affected the car’s color and it shined off the windshield. I found myself turning up the sound to blare Rob Zombie even louder. (Is it just me or is Rob in every video game with a soundtrack?) Gearwhore is also in this soundtrack, as well as even more! And none of them suck! The only thing they are missing in the soundtrack is Eminem and Fatboy Slim.
The graphics challenge FF8’s graphical power. The cars are heavily detailed with not a messed up pixel anywhere. There’s over eight hundred cars in this game (half the car lovers in the world just fainted), and all of them are cool and graphically ahead of it’s time. Very cool.
Did I mention that the game is HARD? The License Tests are very hard. Mostly braking and control they work on. You start out with a car that goes slower than the tortoise, then you end up with tests that are harder than Bill Clinton on a Viagra buzz.
There are many races to participate in, too many to mention. There are tons of cars, like I said, ranging from 1,000 credits to 2,000,000 credits. Honda, Jaguar, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Toyota...geez, who the hell am I kidding? I can’t name them all!! There’s too many! How cool is that?!
It’s a bit hard to learn, but once you do, do the tests instantly. I was told that the wheel shop was cool before, but nothing like this one. There is a huge amount of wheels there for you and you’re greedy needs. And you can put them on any car. ANY CAR! Also, you can preview the wheels on your car before you buy them, isn’t that cool?!
The rally mode is supposed to be really cool, but I find no enjoyment in it. It’s too hard for me, but I guess if you’re good, you can race. I really can’t comment on that aspect.
Basically, these thing is fun. The only flaw is that it has a few viruses, the most noticable one being the one where you can’t complete 100%. Doh!

About Me: I hate the Lakers even more now that Malone is on that team.
