| GraWar's Full Review: Unreal Tournament for Windows |
Having let my son turn me into a Half Life addict, I decided to ask him for some recommendations on similar type of games because I really liked the first person shooter style after playing Half Life.
Unreal and Half Life vary quite a bit. Both have the overall system of running around and killing your oponents with the various weapons on offer in each game. However there is 1 main differences between the games. This is that Unreal is a lot more fast paced whereas Half Life is slower and more tactical. This was a problem for me because my reactions aren't quite what they used to be!
There is a single player option that I found more fun in Unreal than Half Life. You play against various numbers of computer opponents who gradually get harder as you go through the stages. You play on a straight deathmatch theory whereby it is the first person to reach x number of kills for that level. This I found more interesting than Half Life in terms of single player.
However the multiplayer I prefer Half Life as it is more tactical which is my sort of game. However I did like the wider choice of multiplayer options more appealing in Unreal. You can play team games like capture the flag where the aim is to capture the oppositions flag form their own team base. Also there is straight deathmatch where the teams are ranked on number of kills. There are various permutations but I feel these 2 are the strongest.
This is a very good game although after my none too flattering attempts I think the pase of the game makes it for the younger generation!!! I would also recommend a decent spec machine too because it's a demanding game.
