| GamepadGuru's Full Review: Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.2 For Windows |
Ritual Entertainment's new action game Heavy Metal FAKK2 has to be played to be believed. It's all about a warrior named Julie who has defeated Lord Tyler years ago. As the colonists rebuild their world (Eden), they find out that the water of the new land stops the aging process. Because of this, none of the inhabitants has aged in 30 years. To keep possible attackers from discovering the secret, they have built a powerful energy shield & a hazard beacon called F.A.K.K. 2 (Federation Assigned Ketogenic Killzone) alerting that those who approach that Eden is a death trap. But unknown to the colonists, a PlanetShip is approaching. A vessel that can consume entire worlds. It's ancient leader Gith ....is coming.
The gameplay is top notch. Julie can collect & use a wide assortment of weapons from various swords to high powered fire arms. Julie can also hold two weapons at the same time (there are a few exceptions). The enemies are very original from the "Dark Creeper" with large jaws on each hand, to the "Flesh Binder" that can have five weapons at once!
The graphics alone is worth buying this game. HMF2 uses id software's "Quake 3" engine. The result, HMF2 has some of the best graphics ever seen in a game of this genre. And if you have a Geforce 256 based videocard, you're jaw is going to be on the floor. I'm baffled that the game designers can put a multitude of special effects in a game without killing the frame rate. Also, the audio is very well done.
The only problem I can see in the game is that it's too FAKK-ing short (get it?). But I'd rather play a 10 hour game with awesome gameplay & graphics than a 40 hour game that has none of the two (Tomb Raider??).
