Rubbish!

Feb 01 '00

The theory that game violence causes real violence is rubbish. News reports like this cause violence. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's self righteous, self appointed professionals looking for a scapegoat for modern problems.

Kids aren't that stupid. They know what's real and what isn't. Give them some credit. The same is true of that child who burned down his trailer after watching Beavis and Butthead. Kids have always been fascinated by fires and they've always burned down houses while playing with matches and lighters. You need to teach the little ones that fire hurts and fire is not a toy.

Any child will be interested in playing with guns and children and teens have always been inclined to have fights. They need to be kept away from firearms.

I've read the reports. Some of them even in Rolling Stone about games being very similar to the training the military goes through. At least the part of the training that requires people to shoot at human shaped targets. There is some validity to this, but I feel it's insulting to the intelligence of teenagers to say that they don't realize that shooting people is bad and it causes permanent damage.
