You may wonder what the title of this review is about. So it's time for me to tell you. The flaws that cost Faceoff 99 the championship are gone, but new ones have appeared.
Lets start off with the graphics. Their texture has changed a bit but they still look cool. Players now look better than ever and they have once again improved the look of the crowd(a process that seems slow but is worth it). The sound is very good. Teams who have changed horns haven't been forgotten and you can hear coaches complaining. Two flaws: Mike Emrick and Darren Pang haven't changed one bit since last year's version. They're not bad commentators but whether it's Pang's silly remarks after body checks or the very irritating "hit the post with the shot!" from Mike Emrick, it needs to be improved. The second flaw is that the crowd hasn't changed either. It shows its approval when the home team scores, it boos when the away team does, it approves after a giant home team hit and it boos when the away team makes the big body check. That's about it.
The controls, like in most hockey games, are not complicated to master. Shoot, pass, accelerate, leave the puck behind you and execute a body check are basically the things you need to know to play this game.
The biggest flaw in this game is the contrast of what it was in last year's game. In Faceoff 99, the computer cheated to keep the score down but now, it's too easy to score. Simply position yourself in the faceoff circle and fire a slap shot all the time to score 16 goals a game.
Faceoff 2000 is a definite winner but 989 sports hasn't been able to make the number of scored goals per game realistic.
