Pros: Amazing game, the best simulater made so far.
Cons: After the scenarios have been fulfilled, there is not much left to do other than build the "megapark", a park that is totally up to you.

| brulin's Full Review: Roller Coaster Tycoon For Windows |
My fiancee and I were walking through the local games store a few weeks ago, and noticed a demo computer on the wall with what looked like a simcity style game. Having always LOVED the simulation style game, I quickly walked across the room to take a look at what it was on the screen. Rollercoaster Tycoon was what the package said. I had never heard of it, never seen it, and at the time, I had no idea how this game would change my life.
After spending a long time deliberating as to whether I could afford to buy the game, we decided to go all out and get it, not because we could afford it, but because we wanted it.
We got home, ran to the PC, turned it on and began install and setup. Of course, being me, I decided not to read the instructions and just get into the heat of things and start building "one hell of a rollercoaster".
If you have tried this game, you will probably know that building an effective rollercoaster is not as easy as just click here and there. Well, after an hour passed, numerous explosions, and numerous redevelopments, I designed a rollercoaster that actually worked. For those of you that are unaware, each ride in RCT has 3 ratings. excitement rating, intensity rating and nausia rating. The aim is to get the excitement rating as high as possible with the intensity and nausia down to about medium or low. Well, my first coaster, had an excitement of 1.2 (very low), an intensity of 16.8 (ultra extreme) and a nausia of 16.3 (ultra extreme). As you can guess, this coaster was NOT popular, and was loosing my park a lot of money each month. Since that day, I have "evolved" to being able to make rides that are successful, fast and scary as hell. All it took was hours of practice each day.
That is enough about my first ride. Lets talk about the game.
RCT comes with 21 scenarios, each with a different goal to reach in a certain time period. Passing all 21 of these scenarios can be a challenge, and very time consuming, but, in the hours that you spend building, and cleaning, and building again, you will have more fun than any other simulator can offer. As well as the scenarios, you can also build your own park, using one of the layouts offered. Down to the nitty gritty of the game.
GRAPHICS:
For me, the game loaded in 640x480 graphics, which I found a little hard on the eyes. After changing to 800x600, the graphics improved greatly, becoming clearer, scrolling faster, and much easier on the eyes. The game does not have 3D realistic graphics, however, the graphics that it does have are enough for what is needed. 800x600 is recommended.
RIDES:
Well, where to start. Ride sections include thrill rides, family rides, rollercoasters, water rides, food stalls and info stalls, and of course, travel rides like trains, monorails etc. The number of rides are only limited to your imagination and your ability to build rides. Currently, I have in totaly, OVER 300 rollercoaster rides, over 100 of which I have build myself.
SCENARIOS:
21 in total, plus, if you are lucky enough to find the scenario maker on the Net, what ever you added yourself. The scenarios come with different land types, different hill types, some with and without hills, with and without water, with and without trees. Time is the only limit to the scenarios. Some will ask you to reach a certain number of guests, and a park rating, others will ask for a park value (ie. how much income you have). If you want or need the scenario maker (and tp4 image maker) email me at brulin@mbox.com.au and i will send it.
GAMEPLAY:
Like most other simulater games, during the game, while you build, guests are coming an going, complaining about the mess, vandalism and lack of toilets, and if lucky, enjoying the park. I have no problem with the actual gameplay.
BUILDING RIDES:
There are so many rides to choose from, just choosing what type of ride to build is a challenge. Once you have scrolled though the coasters to choose from, you can start building. Station platforms on ground level, or, if you are lucky, up on the raised level. Dips, flips, loops and turns all add to the excitement rating, but watch out, too fast, to slow, to windy or to crazy will make your masterpiece into a money loosing pile of metal. I LOVE building underground, putting flips and loops in the dark passages. Over water, underground, through trees, all these things make rides kick ass!
Up the top, I said that it changed my life, well, just quickly, I will tell you how. Being very hyperactive, I have always found it hard to sit still and focus, this game has helped me to concentrate, focus and think more clearly.
If you are interested in seeing this game, or just reading more about it, go to http://rollercoastertycoon.com (the official game site) and see what they have to say.
I give it a 9.9/10. I truly LOVE this game. email me if you want to chat about this game, or want more information - brulin@mbox.com.au
