Who is responsible?

Mar 23 '00

I have been an avid Gamer since Atari hit the market! I have played most games on most systems and am still at it.
Over the years Violence in gaming has been linked to video games and music. We now have a rating system for games, which in my opinion is sometimes understated. Most of wich state animated violence and gore.

With the ever evolving technology some games look like real movies and your child is the star! Would you let your 12 year old see a gory horror movie? Then why give in to their begging of a new Resident Evil game? Does the name not say it all? I think that most of these games are targeted at adults and selling them at "toys r us" is a big mistake.

Most games are about shooting something or someone. Perhaps if more parents were aware of this fact? After all they have stopped buying their children plastic guns.

My point is that we should not blame the manufacturer for the problems we are having with violence in games.

We each have to be responsible for the choices we make regarding our children. If you do not have time for them and feel guilty and try to make up by buying them the latest game without thinking about what it intails, then you cant blame the seller. You are the Adult and you are in charge!

As for us Adults, we should know right from wrong, but we still smoke, drink and drive our cars to fast. Nobody is twisting our arm telling us to do so either. So again we don't blame the manufacturer for us driving to fast or smoking do we? Why then lay the blame on the makers of the gaming industry?

As long as kids and adults buy them, they will sell them. Perhaps taking a better look at our family values and priorities would improve the situation?
