Note: This review is on the Performance Link Cable. This brand is not listed with the other link-up cables, and I will move this to the appropriate post when Performance brand appears on the site. I chose to place Performance Link Cable under Mad Catz Multi-Link cable as this is the most similar in product design and properties.
Both of my kids have their own Game-Boy and often play their games side by side at home or while traveling in the car. The games they love to play are Mario, Super Mario, and Donkey Kong. To add a new dimension to their game playing we bought them a Link Cable that connects the two Game-Boys and lets them play with and against each other.
Didn't know you could do this? Well we didn't either until we were looking into a Game-Boy printer and needed a cable to connect from the Game-Boy to the printer. Well! Here is a Link Cable, for less than $10 that not only connects a Game-Boy to a printer, but connects one Game-Boy to another. It works with Game-Boy Color, Game-Boy Pocket and Game-Boy. Using this Link Cable lets you play head-to-head, challenge other players or even help them out on the battle field.
Just how does this work? Well you do have to have two Game-Boys to work with. You also have to have two of the exact same game or games that state they work with another in the series. To play with Link Cable attached, turn off your Game-Boys, plug the cable right into the side of each Game-Boy (there are plugs on both ends of the cable). Make sure the game cartridge is in both Game-Boys, then turn the games on. Since my kids love Mario, what happens is you see your "opponents" person right there on your screen so that you can chase, jump on, beat to the flag pole, etc. You can also work together to beat the Hammer Brothers or the Dragon.
It becomes a new kind of game when you know where the other player is right there on your screen. This Link Cable will work like this for any two-player game on the market. There are two compatible plugs on each end of the cable. There is 4-feet of cable length so you can sit side by side, in front of or in a chair opposite the other player ~ 4-feet is a nice length to work with. It is possible to have the 2 Game-Boys hooked up as well as a printer at the same time.
The Performance Link Cable comes in Dandelion (yellow), Teal, Berry, Kiwi (green) and the one we bought was Purple. You should be able to match up the color of your Game-Boy to the cable! You can find them on-line, in Circuit City, Walmart, Target, and other stores that also carry Game-Boy products. The one we bought was $7.99 at Ames Department store.
You can check out this product and all the other platforms and systems at www.interact-acc.com. Their website is easy to quick to load and easy to navigate. Performance is a trademark of InterAct Accessories, Inc. Check them out and see what all they have to offer!
