| killaX's Full Review: Cruisn Usa for Nintendo 64 |
This is not the worst game ever made. In fact, as far as raacing games go I think this is one of the top contenders.
The Plot:Ok, so there's not a lot to look at here. You get your car, race it across america. Wham, bamb, thank you muscle car.
the Cars: Ok, we're seriously lacking in cars here. You get 7 of them, What more do you need. How about spare part upgrades, custom paint, job decals, this and more missing from one of the could-be best racing games for the N64. There are 4 normal cars as well as 3 hidden ones, which you access by pressing on the top and left C buttons while another car is highlighted. You can uncover an offroad jeep, a police car(very fast), or a school bus(stay away from it). Plus, each time you cruise the USA on a harder difficulty level, you earn an upgraded version of the previous model car. I found the police car to be the best. The cars your given are all good as well. The only cars I had a problem stacking out where the bus and the jeep, which are just too slow.
The Stages: Talk about weird, you can crash into just about anything in this game, including oncoming traffic. The stages all range in difficulty, from Golden Gate park, which is really easy. All the way up to Chicago, which any player would call fun and difficult.
Multiplayer: Ahhh! what's wrong with these people!!! I don't want fair! You wouldn't believe what they did. say you bring your controller pak over a friends house to see who is the best. You choose a decked out car all the way upgraded that can go 14 MPH faster than the one your opponent chooses. Plus your cars is equal in cornering. Now in the race, your driving perfectly but he crashes. About 20 seconds later he caught up. He crashes again. Your speedometer reads 120 Mph and his reads 105Mph. Look, he caught up again. For this reason I hate multiplayer in cruising USA. Fortunately the computer controlled cars don't have the same advantage. I still like the 2 player main game though.
multiplayer: 0
Graphics: 4 more than all right, oooh... starting girl.
sound: 4 change the radio stations, back seat driving, annoying
play control: 4 after getting used to your a master of the road, easy to handle.
funfactor: 3 could do better in this department
replay value: 4 I admit, I still play it now and then
My overall rating isn't solely based on the chart above, but that's most of it. I do recommend this game to any racing game fan, as well as most normal gamers. I have played few racing games, so I can't measure this one up to the rest, But I think this is one of the best.
