Dark__Knight's Full Review: Pokemon Stadium for Nintendo 64
This is a turn-based game, based on the little creatures we ether love or hate called Pokemon. It comes with an transfer pak that allows you to play and transfer data from a Gameboy game to the N64, which is always a plus.
The gameplay is fairly straightforward, as is the case with many turn-based games, and none of the game is hard to learn. The quest aspect is lacking, and you will get used to this game's environments and strategy very quickly. This game, like many others, attempts to stretch out its replay value by unlocking a "stage two" when you beat the game, but by that time the whole concept has become tiresome, not to mention the announcer's limited vocabulary. The graphics are fairly good for an N64 game, but they should be better, considering the limited satisfaction you get out of playing it.
Pokemon Stadium was meant as an extension of the original game, and therefore brought some frustrating flaws with it that existed in the Gameboy version. If you realize what's going on when your opponent uses what is known as a "debilitating" attack, you will begin uttering some phrases that would earn this game an "M" rating from ESRB.
People who love Pokemon will not be able to put it down, but many of the rest of you will not be able to put up with its fundimental flaws. The feature allowing you to battle your friends in 3D is cool, but for that, you need two (or more) transfer paks.
So for those of you who loved the Gameboy version, is game will be all you've wanted and expected, but for those of you who didn't start out liking Pokemon, this game could be hazardous to your health.
In short, you shouldn't buy this game unless you have Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow for Gameboy, or you just want the transfer pak that comes with the game. This game lacks a lot if you only use "rented" Pokemon that anyone can use, but it is actually quite fun if you use the Pokemon that you have raised in the gameboy version. (My friend has brought his version over a few times and it is much better) So in Conclusion, I give this game 2/5 stars because I don't have the game boy version, but I would give it closer to 4/5 stars if I did.
The Nintendo Pokemon creations make their way to full 3D battles in a recreation of the Pokemon battle sequences seen in the cartoon series. All 151 o...More at eBay
