leegarson's Full Review: NBA Jam 99 for Game Boy Color
Well, the pressure is on to write a good article here, so I will try my best. NBA Jam '99 is a good game for kids rather than young adults. Nothing comes close to those classic NBA Jam games for the Sega Genesis.
The control is one bad part in the game. The turbo button is the start button. That makes it very hard to incorporate that feature of the game. Without the turbo button, you can't block shots, bump the guy off the ball, or perform spectacle dunks.
The sound is very repititious. The same song goes over and over. It's not even a good song, which adds to the misery. Another bad thing is in NBA Jam, we all know that you need to play against someone else. It's vital to the genre. The computer opponent is pretty tough and it truly does get boring after a while.
One good feature is the five real players on each real roster. Since the game is from 1999, it'll be tough luck to try and find the rosters similar to today. Another good part is the easy-to-control menu features. You will never get lost trying to start the game.
It also has power-ups and special spots on the floor which are worth more. This adds to the fun factor.
In conclusion, the only thing NBA Jam '99 needs is a better way to optimize the use of turbo. I wouldn't recommend buying it though, unless it was less than ten bucks.
