I've never been one to play RPG (Role Playing Games) in any form, especially computer games. But, I decided, to my husband's prompting, that I really should give it a try.
We'll, slowly but surely I ventured out into the Diablo world. I am currently in the 9 level, playing like mad. The game really is addictive. It's not a terribly hard game to get into. Like some of the other games that I have seen, especially Diablo II, you have a chance to smoothly "learn" and break into this type of gaming.
The graphics are very good. You fight different levels of creatures ranging from mummies to bats to demons that are stronger than the regular people that you fight.
You have to build up your character and "earn" your strength, magic, vitality, and dexterity. As you fight, and the more creatures you destroy, the more opportunity you have to build your characters attributes.
As you venture through the levels, you find treasure ranging from gold to special weapons. As you destroy your enemies, you find more weapons, armor, and special jewels and other wonderful things like magic spells and books to use as you continue through the game and try to defeat your foes!
I have played the Blizzard game WarCraftII, and I found that challenging and enlightening too. But, Diablo has a way to make you think a little harder. Sometimes, since you are a lone warrior, you have to strategize more. You have to plan some of your fights, because you don't want to blindly walk into a room with a large group of mummies, skeletons, overlords and be killed before you really start to make a dent in the forces that oppose you.
You will receive quests as you go through these levels, and you must complete these tasks before being allowed to continue on to other levels or to complete the game.
I have been surprised to find myself sitting in front of the computer, playing along, and not even realize what time it is! The adventure captures you, and you want to continue on the current level until you have visited every nook and cranny in that level of the dungeon.
If you are looking to branch out into another type of game, and if you have always wondered what RGP games are like, this would be a good introductory style to help acclimate you to this game environment. It's not so hard to understand or grasp, and you don't have to know all of the components of creating a character with this level strength, magic, dexterity, vitality or other things some games require.
You have 3 choices of characters that you can "be".
1) A Warrior - you are well-trained for all weapons of war, and you are the strongest and toughest of the others, and you excel at close combat!
2) A Rogue - you are a highly skilled archer (female), and you are not as powerful in close combat, but you are an undisputed champion and you are the master of the bow and arrow!
3) A Sorcerer - you practice mystic arts and are very well skilled and have developed a greater understanding of spellcasting than the others!
Your basic characteristics are chosen for you, but you build on them by fighting, getting to the next level, learning more spells, and increasing your personal "level" or character attributes.
It is a fantastic game, and I think many people would enjoy it if they give it a chance. I was surprised!
