EASports still continues to rule the sports video game world and NBA 2000 is no exception. If you're a gamer and an NBA fan this is the one you need.
I've had to set aside my Triple Play 2001 for awhile to join in the NBA playoffs. I have a blast setting up the playoff tree in line with the real playoff tree and trying to take the winning team through to the title.
One thing I love about EASports is their degree of difficulty in the games. There is nothing more boring than playing a game you know you can't lose. In superstar edition if you're not on top of your game the computer can beat you. I must say I rarely lose with the Lakers but if you're looking for a real challenge take the Clippers or the Wizards up against the Lakers and you're in for a real battle.
The game play is great and very realistic. A couple of things I would love to see improved in the next edition though are in free-throw shooting (not hard enough) and 3 pointers (percentage made is not high enough). I take the Wizards a lot and Tracy Murray and Mitch Richmond are darn good 3-point shooters but I can't get them to hit above 30%. Also the free-throws are easily made if you have a decent shooter on the line. I never miss. Just like in Triple Play '01 where even when you try to through a fastball right down the middle it is sometimes a ball you should miss the occasional free-throw even when you do it right. My other problem with NBA Live is that you can only use 1 team in season mode. Sure nobody is going to play every game of the season for every team but even if I'm taking the Lakers for the season I'd like to play when the Knicks are playing the Heat or other great rivalries like that. This is the most important thing I would like to see improved in the next edition.
That being said however this is still a great basketball game and a lot of fun. Now that the finals are getting ready to start it will be exciting to see if I can win it all in NBA Live.
