Shadoglare's Full Review: Battleship for Game Boy Color
Battleship for Gameboy is a fun alternative to using the "real" game - all of the basics are here - placement of five different ships, and turn-taking with the computer to see who can find and sink the other player's ships first.
This version of the game also tries to make things more interesting by offering a few additions to your standard one-peg arsenal - larger missile shots that can cover 2, 3, or 5 squares, and sonar (supposedly from underwater subs on your team) to locate ship locations.
The only thing about the game that sometimes bothers me is the game's AI doesn't seem to be all the smart - it basically just fires at random until it hits something (I would have liked to have seen an AI that bases it's attack on popular locations of ship placements, etc).
Overall, if you like the full game, you will probably enjoy the Gameboy version, though some traditionalists may not like the addition of the new weapons.
Also, I'd have to say that just like the real game, replay value isn't exactly incredible - I play it now and then, but it only takes so long before you get tired of taking pot-shots.
