I have used this site in the past to get general information about diamonds, the site, although accurate, also has its down side.
PROS
Lots of Information - They have a great deal of information about everything from the four Cs to diamond treatments. As a matter of fact, they bill themselves as information as well as jewelry sellers.
Information appeared to be accurate - Information statistics, and definitions appear to be accurate and usually complete.
CONS
Scare tactics - I found the information, although accurate to be written in such a way as to scare the reader into believing that this site is the only honest place to purchase a stone. When I left the site, I began to doubt information I had read, and jewelers I had known for years. (I logged off, and went to my own jewelry to look at the stones I chose over the years to find out if they - since they didn't come from RJ - are as poor a choice as the site would have me believe. Fortunately, they twinkled back at me, and I was happy again.)
Strongly pushed "ideal cut" and "Hearts Of Fire".
While the first item is a statistical model and the second is a brand, they both refer to a diamonds cut. This cut is supposed to show more brilliance and fire than other cuts. While I happen to agree that cut does make a stone (I would prefer a well cut J,SI stone to a badly cut D,VS) a stone without a "perfect" cut may still be very, very sparkly! As a matter of fact, the GIA was researching cut to find out what combination of statistics make the best cut. The last I heard (over the summer of '99) they were finding that there is more than one combination that will make a great cut. So don't get too pulled in by brand names, or labels. The best test of a stone is when you look at it yourself.
Therefore, while I would recommend this site to people looking to learn more about diamonds, I believe there other sites (or the epinions on this site) may be a bit better at providing unbiased, honest information.
