I have known about Mercada for quite a while, but never actually used it. Well, I was looking for a decent father's gift couple of weeks ago, and decided to visit their site.
I made my first purchage within 2 minutes after visiting the site. They had a foreman toolset, going for around 30$. The listed MRSP for the item was over 100$. Imagine the savings. The tool arrived about a week after the powerbuy was complete, and I was quite happy when I received it.
Here is how Mercada works. They setup special purchase prices on items, and its price keeps going down depending on how many people have signed up to buy it. The more items the company sells, the more money they make. And if they make a lot of money, they can cut down on the price. This is pretty much what happens with group purchases.
Its pretty neat. They always email you when a powerbuy is complete, and give you the final amount. In addition to all this, you get a 100$ bonus just for signing up. That doesn't mean you can buy something for free:> It just means that you can use a fraction of that 100$ to get a 20% discount on an item that you buy.
The foreman toolset ended up costing me only 22$! Its unbelievable how much money you can save using this service. Although, you have to be careful. If you are an impulsive buyer, this site might be the worst place for you. There are always a lot of kewl deals going on, and you might end up buying too much junk that you don't really need. Keep in mind to always buy things that you need.
The other kewl feature is the fact that you can suggest items for powerbuys. In addition, if an item is going for 550$, you can make an offer price of 100$. If the price of the item goes down to 100$, you will automatically join the powerbuy.
This is a really good site. Give it a try.
