Miss Ang, Will you marry me?

Aug 11 '00

My husband and I have been married three years now but I remember like it was yesterday the day we met, our first date, our proposal, and our wedding. He is a wonderful man and at the time when we met I had a three month old son. It was tough getting back into the dating mode, but we met through mutual friends at a country bar and life has never been the same since.

I was honest with him from the start, we spent hours talking on the phone and getting to know one another. Our first date we went out to eat at the Olive Garden. I was extremely nervous because I also took my son. If he was going to get to know me he had to know from the start that we were a package a deal. Everything went wonderful. We just fit together like a glove does to a hand.

We dated for almost a year and it was my birthday. We had a nice romantic dinner for two at Ruth's Chris Restaurant. We enjoyed a wonderful meal over a bottle of wine. What more could a woman ask for...well, he had more in mind. He handed me a box so of course I got nervous but when I opened it I found scrabble pieces. "Use these letters to make 2 words. This will be where I am taking you for your birthday." To think that I just thought we were going to dinner. I fumbled with the pieces but the pieces could not lie. I was going to Paris, France! Wow! The blood rushed through me I just could not believe it. He showed me the tickets and gave me two books to read because we were leaving in just two weeks!

I was a nut case upon returning home. I had shopping to do, planning to finish, packing...I did not know where to begin. I had never been on a trip like this and it proved to be a once in a lifetime experience. Dave had a lot of the planning finished, but I just did not know it. He had scheduled the care for my son and everyone was helping out and he even knew who was taking us to the airport and who was picking us up...how he kept this a surprise I still do not know. But it was a wonderful surprise, although this was just the beginning.

After two hectic weeks we were on our way to Paris-The City of Love!! It was December and quite cold but we had no problem keeping each other warm. We visited The Louvre, The Eiffel Tower, Crazy Horse, Moulan Rouge,
and several other attractions. I was in heaven. We had a wonderful time! Each day brought a new experience, each hour a new smile, and each corner a new site!

We had been in Paris several days and I had an idea that he might propose but was not for sure. We had looked at engagement rings several times but I would like it and he would not or that one was too expensive or we better keep looking! I did not know this but he was carrying my engagement ring in his sock for the entire time so that I would not find it. He was right. I would never think to look there!

The time must have felt right to him because we were taking a casual walk in Paris on the oldest foot bridge. We watched the boats go under us and pointed out all that we had seen. It was a brisk afternoon and the wind was gently blowing in my face. We watched two lovers kissing and chuckled to ourselves. I was still amazed that I was in Paris and then it happened. "Miss Ang, Will you marry me?" I was shocked! I was speechless. "Yes! Yes!" I yelled. And then we were the two lovers kissing on the bridge that we had earlier chuckled about. I wonder to this day what the French thought as they walked passed us. As he handed me the ring I was completely speechless. I had never seen a diamond so big. As a stood there in amazement he kept insisting that I take off my glove and put it on quickly. I was still in shock but I managed to get my glove off and he placed it on my finger. He said,"Thank you...can't you see the holes between the planks in the bridge?" I did not at the time but now I was very clear that it could have been a disaster if the ring fell into the river!

The rest of the trip was also very wonderful! I knew that he was the man for me. He knows how to make me smile and knows how to make me laugh. I look forward to seeing him and being with him! He is the love of my life, my best friend, and the father to my son. He is strong and provides for our family. I thank God every day that we met and found one another!

I love you, Dave!

Love,

~Angie
