...but it was in the middle of the Atlantic. His girlfriend then hugged him so hard that he almost dropped the REAL ring in, too!

Your absolutely right and I told him if I had known beforehand what his plans were I probably would have given him a good smack for his girlfriend and if he had thrown in the box with the ring, I would have thrown him in after it. Perhaps I should edit this to that effect. Thank you for the comment.

I rated your writing highly recommended. That was a funny story and made me laugh. However, I would say that his mean and litterally dirty trick is certainly not recommended. I would have wanted to clobber him too. Good thing he remembered and rehearsed which pocket he had the ring in. It would have been terrible if he had to go in there after the real ring.
