I Think I Shall Never See...

I think I shall never see...
A housewarming gift as lovely as a tree!
(With apologies to Joyce Kilmer for slightly altering his famous poem.)
Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but I believe most new homeowners would be thrilled to receive a tree as a gift in honor of their new home.
If your recipient has just moved into a condo with no yard of their own, then there's no reason why they wouldn't enjoy one of the many varieties of indoor potted trees which add a large dose of color and interest to their new decor.
If your friend or family-member has a new yard of their own, then your choices are almost endless. There is a tree for every budget! If you want to spend under $20, you will find many saplings from which to select. How many other gifts do you know of which are so small and inexpensive when you give them, but with each passing year become larger, more valuable, and more appreciated? Someday, your recipient will be laying in their hammock enjoying the shade and tranquility of your gift and recall that you are the one that made it possible!
For the less patient type, you can spend more and surprise them with a tree that has already reached 6 feet or 10 feet or even 20 feet tall! Imagine the year-long enjoyment your gift will provide. You can choose a tree that explodes in an eye-popping display of beautiful flowers in the spring, gives cooling shade and a home for singing birds in the summer, adds a unique array of oranges, reds, purples, and golds to autumn, and continues to add interest to an otherwise dull winter landscape with its' tall intertwining branches reaching into the cold January sky.
Concerned that the new homeowner won't be willing or able to plant their new tree? Offer to plant it with them ---or for them--or buy from a nursery that will also plant the tree for a small additional charge.
However your new gift gets into the ground, I assure you that it will be appreciated for years longer than the majority of gifts which will have long since been sold at a garage sale!
