Corny, but Invaluable

Here is a list of the best gifts I have ever gotten. "Gotten" is a little weak as nomenclature. What I mean by gotten is received, been the beneficiary of, and continue to receive. They're perfect because they last a lifetime, are unforgettable and forever endear you to the giver.
1. Closure. Ever left a conversation half finished? Dodge a bullet on a tricky question? Somewhere, someone out there wants to hear the answer. The truth may be kind of painful, but it's band aid removal kind of pain, ouch, then "ahhh. Don't flatter yourself, if it's been 10 years, don't go offer closure to someone, they've moved on. I'm saying as an everyday act of mercy and kindness, let people ask that one question without answering "don't be like that."
2. Loyalty. Ever caught someone saying something nice about you behind your back? Best gift ever!
3. Friendship. Someone who'll tell you when you're overreacting, under-reacting, dressing too trashy, or need to rethink your 'do. Getting you out of the house when you're holed up too long, will listen to your latest attempt at an audition tape for "This American Life" lets you in when most people are getting shut out and lets you do the same for them. Someone who remembers you when they don't need anything at all, and wouldn't think of turning to anyone else when they do.
4. Hairbrushing. Who doesn't love having their hair brushed? Exactly.
5. Forgiveness. I'm not talking the kind where you do something bad and apologize and then get forgiven. I'm talking the daily amount of slack the people who love you give you to be your own quirky self.
6. Patience. There's something about someone being patient with you that can't be underestimated.
7. Sincerity. Not saying things because they make you look good, but because you mean them.
8. Time. At this point, time is my most precious asset. It's the best gift I get, and one of the best ones I give.
9. Sense of Humor - As serious as this all sounds, sitting around drinking cheap liquor and cracking up is the best gift of all. Actually, the liquor is optional.
