The Inexpensive Gift They're Sure To Love! Great For Weddings, Graduations and More!
Jul 29 '00
I had very little money when my niece got married, and had a difficult time finding just the right gift for her wedding on my almost nonexistent budget. I wanted to give them something they would truly enjoy, and not the regular stuff that they would get several of.
I thought about this for a very long time, then came up with a wonderful idea for a unique wedding gift that I knew they would both love and treasure for years to come.
First, you will need to buy a small photo album. I used one that holds about 100 pictures and is about 6x8 inches. You will also need a small amount of cotton batting, and enough material to cover the album. I chose a red material with tiny white hearts.
You will need to cut the material slightly larger than the album to be covered, keeping in mind that you will be covering the album plus a bit of batting to give it a puffy appearance. Also, make sure you leave enough material to cover the inside of the album covers for a neater appearance.
Place a small amount of batting on the front cover of the album, then cover with the fabric using a hot glue gun to secure it in place. Once it is covered, you can decorate it further if desired.
For my album, I cut a 3 inch heart from cardboard and covered this with batting and a contrasting material. I then glued this to the front of the album. Additionally, I glued on a small bow tied from a contrasting ribbon. You could also add small flowers or other sewing notions to your album. It's your project, so make it how you like.
I tried to use their wedding colors for this particular album since it was to be a wedding gift. I think it came out beautifully and was very inexpensive to make.
Next, I went to the wedding, armed with a Polaroid camera. I snapped wedding photos, just like everyone else. What they did not know was that I had a hidden purpose for my photos.
By the time we arrived at the reception, my photos were neatly placed within the pages of the wedding album. That's right, the couple gets an album, complete with wedding pictures only moments after the wedding.
This was definitely a unique gift for them. Who else would have thought of it but someone with a desperate need for a unique gift at a very low cost.
If you want to spend a little more on this gift, you could also tuck one dollar bills into some of the blank pages of the album for an added touch which is also much appreciated.
You can also make these according to other themes. A graduation album is a nice idea or perhaps a birthday party album. Whatever theme you choose, they are certain to enjoy their own personalized gift, made just for them.
