I love buy.com. Quite frankly it’s one of the best places to shop online. I consider myself a pretty good online shopper and have purchased many things online, but I always noticed that the majority of them are off of buy.com.
I do a lot of research before I buy most of my products. I read about them in as many places that I can, and normally that is also online. Even if I go shopping at a mall I will never buy an electronic or computer item because I know that it will be cheaper at buy.com. If I find something that I like I generally do two things first. Go to cnet.com and check out the cheapest prices on that product. Then go to pricewatch.com to see if there are cheaper prices on that site (though I don’t really like pricewatch anymore, they don’t seem to be updated as well as cnet). On a side note I always check dealnews.com as well because buy.com always has coupons that are posted on dealnews. These coupons are like 30 dollars off of 150, or for new customers 10 off of 30. If I’m going to buy electronics or computer related products then the larger coupons are great!
The Good
-As mentioned before buy.com offers great coupons, if you know where to find them.
-They normally have great prices. I am a little wary of online stores that offer great prices but I have never heard of them before. It makes me think that perhaps they’re not as legit or you never know when you’re really gonna get the product (because a lot of these stores aren’t selling their own merchandise). But buy.com will always ship it out when they say they will and give the status of the product (whether its out of stock and will take a week, or out of stock and will take a month).
-Great customer service. I was thinking of getting a palm III or V and notice that it was out of stock everywhere. So I went to compusa and to best buy as well and saw that they were in stock of the item but of course I would have to pay taxes if I went through these merchants. So I called up buy.com and asked them what the status was of the palms. The service person was very nice and told me that they were backordered until August and that there were thousands of people who ordered it and were waiting. (By the way buy.com is great with canceling orders. So if you were one of these people who are waiting for their palms they can just click cancel and it’s gone. Of course buy.com doesn’t charge your credit card until they ship). I never expected her to tell me so much and pretty much encourage me to buy my product elsewhere. I have called them many time to just check up on my order and they have been great about it. They will call up the warehouse to get the exact status on my order and were never rude or upset when I called about such petty things.
-Shipping. Its shipping policy is average compared to the other online stores, but buy.com also offers a free shipping store. This is where they have many GOOD products shipped for free. I have found a lot of great buys there and its the same great service from buy.com.
The Bad
-The only bad thing that I can say about buy.com is that they don’t update their status on the order tracking as well as I would like them too. Many times I get emails that my package has been shipped after I have received it. Which is a bit strange and me and my friends laugh about it, but the package comes when they say that it will on the website. So if I’m really concerned about where my package is I just call them up and they are more than happy to help.
Overall I love buy.com. Honestly it’s one of my first stops for online shopping.
