What Your Teen Wants: 3 Do's and Don'ts
Nov 29 '99
The best way to know is to ask! As an older teen I know that my friends want different things than I do. Here are some tips to keep you on track once you have a general idea:
DO's --
1. If you know style, and your teen is older, you can't go wrong with fashionable clothes. If you are clueless in this respect (don't feel bad, we don't know what's 'in' half the time) ask! have your teen suggest a store and then ask the salesperson. They will know.
2. Pay attention to the books they read, the toys they have, and the things that their friend's parents are getting them. Know your teen's style: their likes and dislikes.
3. You can't go wrong with computer games. between N64, the playstation, Sega, and the PC you will find what you are looking for. However, these things can be pricey. (make sure, if you are buying games for a macintosh computer, that it will work on that type of operating system. It will say so on the box.)
Don'ts --
1. Don't buy music if you don't know the group (instant return.)What is cool today may be 'lame' tomorrow... and it is easy to forget what your teen likes to hear.
2. Gift certificates are horrible! They have a way of disappearing and many have expiration dates. Keep in mind that a twenty dollar bill doesn't expire and they can use it anywhere. Don't fool yourself into thinking a gift certificate is more personal or a better gift either.
3. Hand held video games and gifts meant for younger children will end up in the closet. Don't buy them.
Once again, the best way to know is to ask. Merry Christmas and happy hunting.
