Very Good gas range

by norberr , May 31 '02
Pros: Easy to clean, nice features, good looking
Cons: controls not always intuitive
We have had the range installed for a couple of months. We considered lower-end models by Amana and others, but didn't like the rangetop features (see below) and ease of cleaning. We looked at higher-end ranges such as Dacor and Viking, including...

Professionally priced garbage

by pollys_cracker , Apr 18 '08
Pros: Styling, convection oven.
Cons: Igniter, circuit board, oven door hinges, fan. Unacceptable build quality.
Pros: Great styling - heating a can of soup on this oven makes you look like a chef. Convection oven - cooks evenly and quickly, but I had to adjust cooking times and temps for all my recipes to the convection oven. Cons: Where to start? I've ...

Cooling Fan Not Working
by rfodor ,Nov 17 '08
Pros: Stylish, great cooking with gas, love the oven probe.
Cons: Black enamel scratches, hard to clean, oven vent is chipping, glass door shattered.
I have owned this range for three years - gas top, gas oven. We are on the third clock (controls) and touch pad. I finally realized that the cooling fan in the back has never come on to keep the controls cool. My mother has the same range but hers is electric. Her fan comes on as soon as the oven reaches 200F. Her controls stay cool and so far after three years, all is well.

Since learning this, our technician (luckily we purchased a 5 year warranty plan) has been trying to source the fault. Maytag says that the fan should come on but cannot say when or for how long. The saga continues...

Have your technician check for fan operation! I thing Jenn-Air may have a fire issue with these ranges.

disappointed in JennAir/Maytag
by Fritz57 ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: works well although I suspect the oven is hotter then the temp indicates
Cons: shoddy finishing
We bought it because Maytag, in the past has been reliable. It replaced a very old GE that was beyond reasonable repair. We'd have got another GE, but I feel their quality has suffered alot in the last decade. Our local appliance repair guys agreed.

The paint above the vent is almost all peeled away.
The burner surface paint is easily scratch with light cleaning.
The burner grates are all discolored.
The door has a chip that wasn't caused from dropping anything.
The burners intermittently doesn't stop clicking (starting) even after the flame is on.
The oven floor is heavily warped after 5 cleaning cycles of the shortest time available.

It's a bit over 2 years old now. We just had the whole front panel replaced because the touch pads were failing. A few months back we had a new sparker put in, a new surface and exhaust panel. I'm glad we bought the 5 year warrantee.

a bit over 3 years. New oven ignitor. Would have cost $200 w/labor.
It works well, but what shoddy manufacturing. No more Maytag.

Disappointed in Jenn-Air Range
by jtrmom ,Aug 12 '04
Pros: Style, Convection Oven, Self Cleaning Oven, Large window, Easy to read display, Simmer Burner
Cons: Grates & Burner Caps impossible to clean. Igniter clicking, trying to ignite unused burners.
We purchased this range to replace an outdated(no bells or whistles)range. This range is certainly not a bad range, but for $1,600 it certainly needs improvements. If I had been able to test drive it a couple months before purchasing it I wouldn't have purchased it.

Jenn-Air/Maytag JGS8850 Gas Range Disappointing Performance
by gpdash ,Aug 09 '04
Pros: Large conventional conduction oven, fully programmable, sealed burners, easy cleaning, attractive appearance, separate burner grates.
Cons: Twenty four days after installation this oven permanently ceased functioning due to electronic failure.
We purchased a Jenn-Air JGS8850 Gas Range because of Maytag's reputation for quality and reliability and the range's features. Unfortunately, while this range has many good features, it has a serious defect in the oven electronics.

Poor service, even worse appliance
by f1-8 ,Apr 15 '07
Pros: Can't think of any pros... quick availability of parts, I guess.
Cons: Refusal to accept that there is a design flaw with this oven. Poor customer service.
We moved into a house with this range, still under warranty. We are having the electronics replaced for the third time. I have spent over $200 on labor, wasted at least 3 hours on the phone and hours waiting for technicians. The electronic panel, as noted in other reviews here, don't like the heat. What happened to the good old days of simple mechanical ovens... guess the extra money for a Viking might be worth it.

Nice Range but major electronics defect
by csrhs ,Nov 18 '05
Pros: Looks nice and performs well
Cons: Poorly designed electronics.
Although I've been happy with the look and performance of this range, I've gone through 3 control panel assemblies in the 2 years I've owned it. Apparently, the circuit board doesn't deal with heat very well. The front of the oven gets hot enough to fry the electronics. Each time it breaks, I've had to spend hours on the phone dealing with a confusing support system and 2 half days waiting for technicians to show up. The really frustrating thing is that I never know when it's going to break down next. Maybe it will be Thanksgiving dinner when the turkey is half cooked.

Do not buy this oven or anything that uses a similar control panel.

Touch Panel Disaster
by barry47 ,Dec 21 '05
Pros: Its pretty. It's got nice burners.
Cons: Black is impossible to clean.
My very similar 8750 model has had the clock & touch panel replaced 6 times, if you include the one in the new range they gave me after the first 3 repairs. Just failed again (December '05) after the last repair (Nov '05). To their credit, they've covered all the costs even after 2 years, but what good is that when you're trying to cook dinner? And yes, it's the heat. The oven door doesn't have adjustable hinges, and it just doesn't close tightly. The touch panel gets up to about 190 degrees, the adhesive fails and the thing craps out. And these guys at Maytag just don't get it. They don't even ship the damaged parts back for analysis - they leave them for me to throw out. GAK!

broken beyond repair Jenn-Air Range
by diamond101 ,May 27 '04
Pros: Looks very good on my kitchen.
Cons: Bad manufacturing. Bad repair. More problems, then cooking.
I own Jenn-Air Gas range JGS8850 (white) for 10 month.
We has Maytag service four times and they could not fix it.
Unfortunately, they also cant exchange it, even it still has manufacturer's warranty. They just delaying appointments to drug it for more than 1 year.

The range started to fall apart after four month of work:

The burner grates are all rusted.
Ignitor is not working properly causing power interruption. It do not stop clicking even after fire is on. Burners, which are not used, keep clicking.
Clocks reset by itself each time we start cooking.
Oven convection fan stop working at any temperatures.
