I 've just been able to try out the new Cuisinart Mini-Prep and I have to say this is one great little machine.
Quick Thoughts: The new Mini-Prep takes a lot of the customer feedback received on the current Mini-Prep product and is a great gadget to have in your kitchen for all sorts of little jobs. The new design is very streamlined. This will be a big seller throughout the holiday season and is a great entry-level product in the Cuisinart product line. I think this will be a gift that I give to several people on my list this Christmas.
Price: Suggested Retail Price is $39.95. You’re going to find this for $29.95 at many stores and if you follow the sales, I’ll bet a few stores will offer this for $24.95 just to get people to shop at their store during the holidays so watch for bargains.
Features/Benefits:
* NEW Touch Pad Controls and Indicator Lights – if you are familiar with KitchenAid products, the Touch Pad controls and lights won’t seem that exciting to you. I simply have to touch either the CHOP or the GRIND switch to make it go. And, it's much easier to wipe the touch pad clean rather than clean out the area around the buttons.
* NEW Auto-Reversing Smart Blade - don’t laugh, but the salespeople at Williams-Sonoma said that they had several people return the old Mini-Preps because they had cut their fingers on the blades. With the old design, you had to take the blade out and flip it over when you were switching from chopping to grinding. With the new design, you simply go into auto-reverse to switch from one task to the other so there will be a lot less cut fingers in the future! Whether you are chopping herbs or grinding nutmeg, you’ll enjoy this new feature.
* NEW Cord Wrap – the cord wrap makes it easy to keep the cord out of the way when you are not using the device. It also looks a lot neater than it used to with the cord wrapped around the center of the work bowl. Now it is out of the way.
* NEW Cover Design – There are now two little holes in the top of the cover that let you add liquids to what ever you are making while you are running the Mini-Prep. This is great because it means that you don’t have to stop the machine and take off the cover when you are using it.
* NOT NEW (but still good) – the work bowl, cover and little spatula are dishwasher-safe.
* Size - This is 5" x 7" x 9" high so it won't take up a lot of counter space at all.
* Limited 18 month warranty – this is not as exciting as the 10-year warranty on the Cusinart 14-cup model, but for a $49 item, it’s not bad.
At this time, it’s only available in white and it has been selling very well. Very soon, it will be available in chrome. Williams-Sonoma will carry white, chrome and their signature blue color in time for the holidays. Other stores will most likely stay with white for a while. (Williams-Sonoma gets an exclusive on the blue color for one year).
