All that really came out of the carpet????

Written: Nov 26 '00
Pros:Actually cleans, true HEPA filtration system, NO BAGS
Cons:none really

My old vacuum, a Regina Plus, was held together by tape. I had it only about 3 years and it worked great when I first bought it. It all went downhill from there. I could literally see the dust and hair flying out from whatever exhaust was on the poor thing, and the top latch broke, which held the handle to the top of the bag, and had to held together by tape. So when the belt broke on it, I decided it was not worth the $2.99 to replace it and went shopping.

I decided on the Eureka Whirlwind Plus because it featured the no bag canister system, true HEPA filtration (a plus since my child has asthma and other family members suffer from allergies), on board attachments and a really long cord. I chose this vacuum over other similar vacuums mostly because of price, it normally was $189, but I got it on sale for $113.00.

It was well worth it!

This vacuum features a clear canister/dirt collector cup in the front, which I have found very easy to empty, a headlight, a clear attachment hose, an upholstery brush attachment, crevice tool and a longer wand to attach to the hose. All attachments securely fasten to the vacuum, which cuts down on having to hunt them down while cleaning.

Upon bringing it home, we immediately put it together. Assembly was a painless process of attaching the handle and the dirt collector cup. I immediately began vacuuming the master bedroom carpet. I was amazed at the ease of maneuverability, this is not a self propelled vacuum -- but you can't tell that it's not. I vacuumed an area about 5 feet by 7 feet and watched in awe the amount of dirt and hair flying around the clear dirt collector like a contained tornado. When I went to empty the cup, which was full, my boyfriend said "Did all of that just come out of the bedroom?". We had no idea how much dirt was hiding in the bedroom, it looked clean.

I loved the way it made the carpet soft and cushion-y again! It really looked cleaner, after just one time. When I went over the same area again, with an empty collector cup, there was a little bit of dust and carpet fuzz, but I must say this vacuum did a very through job on the first try.

I don't understand why they made the hoses on this vacuum clear though. They immediately get dirty and are no longer clear. But it did look cool when it was new.

I also like the idea of not buying vacuum cleaner bags anymore. The canister is easy to empty, but if not careful, dust can spread all over your hands and face when emptying. The filter in the canister is cone shaped and is made of thick foam. I did find that after washing this filter it took about a day to air dry as specified in the instructions, I thought this was kind of long.

I would recommend this vacuum to anyone with allergies and/or asthma. The HEPA filter actually works. It does not spread dirt and dust around and when you are done the air only smells clean, not dirty. If you have children who play on the floor a lot I would snuggest this vacuum as well, because it is so thorough at picking up dirt.
