I've only bought 2 knives

Sep 21 '00

I've only bought two knives the rest were gifts. My advise is every home should have one serrated knife and a few various knives that can be sharpened. A dull knife is by far more dangerous than a sharp knife, you need one good size knife for roasts , turkeys and such 1 serrated knife for fresh bread other knives 8 sharp steak knifes a really sharp small parring knife and my favorite a small filet knife with a serrated edge. I don't like fish but these knives are very thin and fantastic for slicing paper thin tomatoes, when there 80 cents a pond and your feeding a family on a budget you need to get 6 or more slices out of one tomato.
If your a newlywed couple make do for a couple of years you'll probably end up with more knives than you know what to do with, give most of the serrated ones to the salvation army and keep those knives you can sharpen.
I have an electric can-opener that has a knife sharpener on the back. It works great for keeping my knives sharp, can opener was more hassle than it was worth but I kept it for the sharpener.
