| smudgy's Full Review: Panasonic Mid-Size Microwave Ovens |
When my tiny little microwave from college finally died,
I decided to get a slightly larger microwave. I knew what
I was looking for. I wanted a larger capacity (at least 1
cu. foot), higher wattage and didn't want to spend more than
$100. After shopping around, I settled on the Panasonic
NN-S540BF. This model is 1100 Watts, 1.2 cu. ft and cost
me about $90. So far I am extremely satisfied with it.
Popcorn cooks in about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes, and cooks
very evenly thanks to the built-in turntable. The
turntable itself is a little flimsy but serves it's
purpose.
Cooking times are incredible. TV dinners that took about
6 minutes in my old microwave cook in about 3 minutes now.
And it cooks without leaving icy spots right next to
scalding hot spots, like my last microwave.
The controls are fairly easy to use with lots of presets
and different cooking settings. The 'inverter' allows the
microwave to thaw food quickly. (A little sticker on the
front boasts "inverter inside" a la Intel)
My only complaint is the keypad. Like most microwaves,
the flat panel controls can be a little annoying. Sometimes
you press the button really hard and nothing happens and then
you brush up against it and the button suddenly works. It
really just takes a little getting used to.
Overall, I would say this is an excellent value. A very
powerful microwave for less than $100!
