Set it and Forget ItMar 01 '00 (Updated Mar 21 '00) Write an essay on this topic.I just recently purchased the Showtime Rotisserie from QVC. I don't make a habit of buying anything over the TV. I had been watching the QVC program quite a few times about the "Set it and forget it" rotisserie and finally decided to order it since they had made it available with 5 easy payments. I received it 10 days later and it was pretty good for anything that you cook whole. The first thing I tried was prime rib. Every year at Christmas I make a prime rib dinner for my family and my sister and her family. It comes out okay, but never like the restaurants. Well this rotisserie really does a great job. The prime rib was so moist, so tender and had great flavor....The next thing I tried was a whole chicken and that too, was wonderful. It was nice and golden brown, moist, and done in an hour. I came back to edit my opinion after further cooking, and it does not do a very good job on pieces of meat. I tried to cook 6 boneless pork chops and they came out terrible....I was very disappointed, two of them on the outside ends were burned on the outside before the middle ones were done, and when they finally were done.....they were really dry!!! I also tried pieces of chicken that were cut up, and the legs and wings were beyond well done before the thighs and breasts got done. After further talking to other friends, we had come to the conclusion , this is a very good machine for doing "whole" meats, but is not very good with "individual" cut pieces. It's kind of like the George foreman grill....it's great for "cuts" of food, and you can't do "whole" chickens/roasts, etc.....so if you want the best of both worlds, you got to buy both, and that can be rather expensive. Just keep in mind and ask yourself, what will I cook more of "whole" meats or "pieces" and make your decision based on that. Also bare in mind, the machine also gets very hot, so keep away from children. It also takes up space and the back piece is kind of hard to keep clean. So if I could figure out how to change my recommendation, I would change it to "somewhat Recommend" depending on what you are really looking for. |
