| mariah327's Full Review: Sunbeam "IQ3" Electric Blanket |
Three years ago I received a full-size Sunbeam "Blanket With A Brain" Electric Blanket (Personalized Heating System With Traditional Blend) as a gift. It was my first electric blanket. I had always thought they were like big heating pads. Not so. They work by trapping your body's own heat.
This blanket had 11 settings and worked very well for us, although it only had one control. The only annoyance, a very slight one, was that the control clicked rather loudly periodically through the night. We would probably still have that blanket, but it was washed one too many times and finally bit the dust. However, I think that was entirely our fault and don't hold the manufacturer responsible.
We recently replaced the "Blanket With A Brain" with a queen-size "IQ3" Electric Blanket (Heating System With Auto On/Off With Premium Blend). This one has 22 settings and two controls (available only on queen and king), which suits us much better. We immediately noticed that the clicking from the control is much softer and is barely noticeable.
The blanket automatically shuts off after 10 hours. A very good feature in our house! Unfortunately, in this regard each side of the bed is not independent of the other, so whoever turns his side on first starts the timer. We sometimes go to bed a few hours apart so once I have started the timer, the blanket will shut off long before my husband is ready to get up. Once either side of the bed has been automatically shut off neither side will turn back on until both sides have been manually switched off or the reset button (on the master control) has been pressed.
This blanket also has a 'pre-heat' feature. If you set it on pre-heat about 30 minutes before you get into bed, it will warm it up for you. I've only used this feature once. It worked okay, even though I got into bed after only about 20 minutes. I'm sure I will use it more on colder nights.
All in all, this is a great blanket. With 22 settings, including pre-heat, and the automatic shut off, it has just about everything we could need. I recommend it highly, especially for children or anyone else who might forget to turn it off.
