| badmom's Full Review: GE Built-In Dishwashers |
This dishwasher was included when we built our new house in 1998, all the appliances that came with the house were GE, we were given no choice as to model, but we could choose between white and black. We chose the black. We had previously had a Maytag top of the line portable, so I was skepticle about the ability of this GE to match it in cleaning.
Well, I have to say it does a good job, although not what the Maytag was capable of. However, since it came with the house, I would immagine that there is a great deal of price difference between the two.
We run it an average of once a day, sometimes twice, and it generally does a very good job on cleaning even baked on mess off of the dishes and pots. There are times when I find I have to re-run something through, but not a large amount. Over all it is a fairly quiet machine, nothing you have to scream over to be heard. I don't pre-rinse or pre-wash my dishes, so it gets the full dirt to deal with.
In appearance, it's a very nice looking machine, we have bleached wood cabinets so the black stands out nicely against them.
If I have a complaint, it's that it doesn't hold as much as my Maytag did. Larger pots and pans that I know I used to fit into the old one just won't fit into this one, but that has to do with the size of the racks and layout of the spray nozzles. The Maytag was a much bigger machine. Anything that can be washed in there, I do--I hate to do dishes by hand!
I have also noticed that you have to be careful in placement of the items inside on the racks, because it is very sensative to having certain nozzles or water streams blocked as to the quality of cleaning. Much more so than my old one.
I would recommend this machine to someone looking for a good, solid dishwasher, it has the name behind it, GE has been around for ever. I have no idea what it cost, as it was included with the house, but would guess it was in the $2-300 range.
