| jmhkd's Full Review: GoldStar Air Conditioner R5000 |
I have a Goldstar R5000 air conditioner. It has 4 basic settings. They are Low Fan, High Fan, Low Cool, and High Cool. It is 5,000 BTU's which runs on 5.6 amps, but should be installed in a 125 volt 15 amp plug. The approximate cooling capacity according to the box is a 10X15 Foot room. We have it in a 12X12 Foot Room and it does an excellent job cooling most of the apartment down. The automatic thermostat goes from 1 to 9. It also features a one touch easy lift out filter and two way air deflection. It has an energy efficiency rating of 8 on a scale of 10, which is the only problem I have with this unit. Several comparable units in size have a better rating, but also cost a little more than the $144 I paid for this one.
This is a window unit. It weighs 44 pounds, and is approximately 12"X18.5"X15". The installation is very basic and you need only a tape measure, a phillips head screwdriver and a drill. The standard warranty on the product is 5 years on the sealed cooling system and 1 year on parts and labor.
We live in an older building and have had trouble with our wiring supporting some air conditioners. This one works fine on even its' highest setting.
