Lefties (& right-corner counters): NO microwave doors to flip downward?

Jul 25 '00

Lefties: (btw I'm a rightie) Why NO microwave that opens in the direction that toaster ovens do: Flipping downward? ALSO: For placement on right-corner counter, isn't it a bit awkward to have to reach all the way over to operate keypad & buttons on the right side? (never mind removing the food)!

So, assuming you have a setup where it's most feasible to place microwave on your right-corner counter... IF ONLY the keypad & door-open button were accessible! (say, centered above or below the flip-down door).

Here's how the open-door button might work:

Press button, the latch unlocks. Then, manually flip down the microwave door. Of course, there may be problems posed by the micro-waves that way not be adequately deflected by a flip-down door, but that's an issue for the magnetron-experts to respond to - or perhaps circumvent? Otherwise, uh-oh, WATCH-OUT! You may be sizzled to a mushy mush-mush!

Also, WHY doesn't Epinions offer a "Why Don't They" discussions forum, wherein people can vent to each other about features they need on appliances, or anything else, but which their royal-highness manufacturers don't deign to provide?

I'd like a platform from which people can holler at fridge & oven manufacturers:

"Why don't you make 18, 19 & 20 ft. refrigerators which have a HIGHER ratio of Freezer space relative to Fridge space. Say a ratio of 7-11 Freeze to Fridge space, in an 18 cu. footer.

OR:
Why aren't there oven-ranges with side-opening doors, so as to need less clearance space to open the door in a cramped kitchen?

OR:
How about a 4-door fridg. for people with cramped spaces, requiring less depth / clearance? I'm talking about a TOP-MOUNT fridge that's similar to a side by side, in this respect:
That there's doors on either side.

EXCEPT, in this case: 2 on top (for freezer) & 2 on bottom (for fridge). ALSO: the fridg. would NOT be divided by a wall, nor would the freezer. Rather, one door of both the fridge & freezer might have a flap attached to provide insulation.
