Fish Steak Oriental...can fit anyone's taste...

Like so many parents it can be hard to get your children to eat certain dishes you fix for dinner. I know with my oldest daughter she is very picky and will not touch any kind of fish, she would rather eat a Corn Dog (YUCK) then eat salmon, cod or any other type of seafood. This all changed when I started fixing Fish Steak Oriental, now she will eat it without a fight. (I know that many times children don’t like certain foods, when I was young my mother would fix a nice roast and I would eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich instead, she thought I was nuts, but I didn’t care for roast, now I will eat it.)

Okay here is a list of ingredients you will need to make this wonderful dish:

1. Soy Sauce-you can use regular or low sodium, I personally haven’t used low sodium, but if you are watching your sodium intake I would suggest using it.

2. Water- well this ingredient is available in every household

3. White Wine- I would suggest using the cheapest wine you can find, I usually don’t spend over five dollars for a bottle if I am using it in a recipe.

4. Granulated Sugar- I know some may not use sugar, I personally haven’t used anything else, but you can experiment with other products.

5. Minced Garlic- I have used both the seasoning version of minced garlic and the Ready to Use (which may be found in your produce section). The only draw back to the using the Ready to Use is it does have an expiration date on it.

6. Ginger- I personally have left this ingredient out, I don’t care for the ginger taste, but this is up to the individual.

Now I will list the few items you will need to prepare this dish:

1. A medium sized sauce pan- used for mixing the ingredients.

2. Baking sheet- used for the actual baking of the fish.

3. Aluminum Foil- used to wrap the fish up when baking it.

4. Wooden Spoon- used for stirring the ingredients when mixing.

I will give you the recipe I received from my mother-in-law, I’m not sure where it came from but she has been making it for years:

4 pieces fish, I have used Cod, or any other boneless white fish
6 Tbsp. Water
4 Tbsp. Soy Sauce
2 Tbsp. White Wine
4 tsp. Granulated Sugar
2 tsp. Minced Garlic
1 tsp. Ginger (ground)

Mix together ingredients and bring to a boil- once to a boil reduce heat and simmer five minutes. Put four pieces of foil, at least 7x10 inches, on the baking sheet. Place fish steak on each piece of foil, pouring sauce over each piece of fish.Fold foil over to make a foil pouch. Bake at 400 degrees for twenty minutes. Serve it foil and all on each dinner plate.
*There are variations I have found, I sometimes add chopped onions and mushrooms to each piece of fish, depending on individual taste, you can add any ingredient you think appropriate.

Have fun and make any variation you want, you can’t get any easier then this.
