Do you need the highest quality and best capacity for purifying your entire house? Are you prepared to make a life long commitment to having the best tasting highest quality water around?
Then these are the types of systems you need. Pura and Hydrotech, Pura's new parent company makes an entire market of residential and commercial water purification products. These units are mainly entire house units. However they do provide some smaller Point of Use (POU) units as well. The (POU) units are the ones city dwellers (Nothing Negative in that term I'm a city dweller too!) are used to seeing and using i.e. 'Culligan' 'Pur' 'Brita' etc. However, in some parts of the country and around the world they aren't so fortunate to have a municipal water supply pumping perfectly safe water right into their home.
When you find that perfect dream spot and have your home plans all laid out. Don't let the lack of a city water line keep you from building. Check out the water table, drill a well, collect rainwater, and then stick a high-end whole house purification system on it and drink some of the purest water around. Just have someone who knows what they are doing help you out with the details.
Pura's whole house units come with a 254 nanometer Ultraviolet light which is rated to kill 99.9% of Giardia Cysts and Cryptosporidium, two of the most dangerous bacteria and protozoa around. When you couple the standard UV with an Activated Carbon Unit before it and the 2 micron filters before the Activated Carbon, then put a little (POU) 'That's Point of Use) unit on your sink you can have water that meets or exceeds requirements for safe potable drinking water. The best thing about the Pura units are their well built and manufactured to last. They have a 1 year Warranty on the UV lamp and other electrical equipment on the unit and a 3 years on all other parts of the UV water purification system. This commitment to quality shows through.
Remember this particular Pura unit the "Big Boy" series is meant for larger scale and whole house water purification. If you live in the city or anywhere where your local municipality pumps water directly into your home, the municipality is purifying your water to EPA standards already. You will be better off especially "money" wise to buy a (POU) unit for under your sink or a water cooler with water purification built in. These units are for commercial and whole house residential systems where the water must be purified on site because the water source is either 'Rainwater', 'Ground Water' ie 'Well Water' or 'Surface Water'. After all $1,100 dollars is a lot to spend if you don't need it!
But if you need a whole house system then Pura is a good bet to meet your needs for pure and safe water. Remember the Pura system alone won't give you safe water but along with some careful planning and other filtration devices you can have safe and clean water.
The unit I've seen in action and used water from is a 15 GPM (Gallons per Minute) Pura 'Big Boy' System. It has worked flawlessly for 11 months of operation and soon should need a new lamp. The filter housing is easy to access and clean when necessary. The systems usually come with a plastic clamp to open the filter housing and replace the sediment filter. These should be replaced about once every 3 months or so. The concentrated UV light along with the filters give some very clean water for my friends home. In addition the unit comes with an alarm light to indicate lamp failure and you can see the glow from the Ultraviolet from a specially designed peephole.
My friends currently use a 'Rainwater' System in combination with Chlorine, a UV and a .10-micron sediment filter and a .05-micron sediment filter. These should make his water very safe to use in most household applications. Currently for his own peace of mind we don't drink the water due to the fear of tri-halomethanes that could be in the water from organic build up and the chlorine he uses to treat the water. After he installs an Activated Carbon unit and probably a (POU) Reverse Osmosis system he will drink all the water he can!
The only negative is the fact that the unit is underneath the house so it takes some squeezing to get in and shut down the water supply to change out the filters, but that's not a unit design failure, its just the best place for the Purifier to be for his family.
If you are looking for a whole house water purification system then Pura should be on a short list of suppliers to look at!
