A stove for a modest cost that functions superbly. Maytag's Magic Chef CGR31213xaw.
The Magic Chef Stove features sealed burners, an electronic clock and great aesthetics for a decent price of $419.00. Bought April 18th from the Maytag Dealer in Galt CA. It is a 30" standard clean, free standing oven.
We bought this new stove when we moved to California. The stove that was in the house was so dirty I spent at least 4-5 hours attempting to clean it. My husband finally said, let's just buy a new one. Oh, thank you honey!
We started our quest for new appliances at Sears. That is where we had bought our last set of appliances and we had been very satisfied with Sears. NOT this time. Obviously in larger cities, Sears has forgotten the main, most important feature in the sales world. Customer service. We needed to purchase 6 major appliances. We wanted them to be delivered, and the old junk hauled off. After looking around a while we found this to be almost impossible. Finally we started to search the small town that we lived in and found that the Maytag dealer in town could fit the bill perfectly.
They offered great service and courteous service. It was a pleasure shopping from them. I'm sure we didn't cause Sears to go broke by taking our business away, but if they have enough unhappy customers, even the giants do fall.
Though you can purchase a Magic Chef Self-Cleaning Oven for under $500. I purposely didn't want a self cleaning oven. The fumes are very hard on animals, especially exotic birds.
The sealed burners is the feature on this particular stove that caught my attention. After trying to clean the old stove I could certainly see the benefits of sealed burners. No more messes under the stove top when something boils over! The Electronic time-of-day clock with timer was a nice feature as well. Simple to use, you don't need a degree in electronics to set the timer. The porcelainized steel grates are very easy to clean, you can even throw them into the dishwasher.
I feel much safer with the pilotless ignitions. The pilotless ignition uses a spark to light the burner. The oven also has a pilotless ignition. It works with a glo bar. The only disadvantage to the pilotless ignition systems is that you can not light the stove or burners during a power failure.
Another feature worth a mention is the oven light. Just flick a little switch up on the left hand side of the upper panel and you can watch your cake fall, must be magic. You can now watch this hideous event take place!
Warranty
Full warranty for 1 year on parts and labor. They also have a limited warranty for a 4 year period for parts only.
The stove it self is white. The front window/door is a pretty smoky gray, with a matching broiler door on the bottom. I like the bottom broiler. What I don't like is the broiler rack on this oven. It only has a rail on each side to support the broiler. It is very hard to slide the broiler pan in and out. I pulled the rack out to clean up a small spill, and now can't get the broiler rack back in.
All in all for the inexpensive price this is a great stove. It is very basic, but really, that is all the two of us need.
