We were in the market for a vacuum cleaner after our Hoover upright simply became just too loud. For the novice, I guess a Hoover would be fine...it was for us for 6 years. But when you really want the best I highly recommend the Miele. Again, we did much research, visited the dealer, etc.. and came away convinced to say the least. The Miele releases by far less dust than any other vacuum on the market...important for those with allergies. Furthermore, the ease of use (lightweight) is a plus along with its superior pick-up ability. Without fail, every single piece of research for this company was unabashedly positive! However, be prepared to pay 2-3 times more for the quality which, by the way, offsets itself because of its unparalleled durability and iron clad warranty. As we have learned, you get what you pay for and vacuums are certainly no different! Lastly, you best like it because this thing has a reputation for lasting 25+ years!
